ESMN and DCR Lead Interpretative Walks

For the second consecutive spring, Eastern Shore Master Naturalists and Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation National Heritage Stewardship staff led interpretative walks at local nature preserves in collaboration with the Academy for Lifetime Learning (ALL).

ALL is an all-volunteer organization of individuals who share their interests and life experiences to provide a rich and varied menu of courses.

Participants at the Magothy Bay, Mutton Hunk Fen, and Savage Neck Dunes NAP and Edward S. Brinkley Preserve guided walks learned about native and invasive plant species, restoration techniques, shoreline management complications, unique bird and invertebrate species, and more.

Some ALL students were visiting the NAPs or Brinkley for the first time. Many expressed appreciation for what they learned about the preserves and the associated flora and fauna.

Kudos to ESMNs Paul Anderson, David Boyd, Joanne Laskowski, Jim McDaniel, Kellie Piekarsky, Rose-Marie Roessler, and Bob Suppa for leading the walks in coordination with Shannon Alexander and Jack Saladino (DCR).
